Supporting Men
with their Nutrition

The Problem

Men are less likely to engage with physical and mental health services, despite being at a higher risk for a variety of physical and mental health conditions.

Preventative health & wellbeing services have the potential to support men's health.  However, many existing services are not designed with men in mind.

Supporting Men with their Nutrition is a talk is designed for students on Undergraduate and Masters Nutrition programmes.

On an individual, community & population level, it looks at the ways nutrition professionals & public health services can better support men with their nutrition & health.

It explores:

  • The current state of men's health in the UK

  • Evidence-based impact behaviours for men

  • The social, psychological and environmental barriers impacting men's behaviour

  • Practical takeaways and considerations for supporting men

Senior Lecturer in Food and Nutrition at the University of West London

We were delighted to welcome Josh Clamp for a guest lecture on men’s health and nutrition at the University of West London for our students on the BSc in Nutrition and Food Management and the MSc in Nutrition Health and Wellbeing courses.

Josh's presentation had a strong focus on men’s relationship with their own health, behavioural change, motivational interviewing and the COM-B model.  Josh delivered an engaging, evidence-informed session on a highly relevant topic, which opened up important conversations around how men engage (or often disengage) with preventative health behaviours.

His use of motivational interviewing principles and practical application of the COM-B framework helped students understand how to better support male clients in real-world practice.  The session was insightful, relevant and extremely well-received, with students commenting on how engaging, relatable and insightful it was.

I would highly recommend Josh as a guest speaker, his clarity, authenticity and applied approach make him a real asset in both educational and professional settings.
